Electromagnetism
A detailed section on the nature, mechanism, and consequences of electricity and magnetism in this framework.
Most people learn that electromagnetism is one of the four fundamental forces of nature — a mysterious, invisible force that governs the behavior of electrically charged particles. They learn that electricity and magnetism are separate forces that mysteriously “cause” each other. That is not wrong, but it is incomplete. In this framework, electromagnetism is not a fundamental force at all. It is the electron’s interaction with the resistive medium of space. Electricity is the flow. Magnetism is the wake. They are the same event viewed from two angles. They are the two ends of one process.

1. The Fundamental Claim — Electromagnetism Is Not a Force
Electromagnetism is the electron’s interaction with the resistive medium of space. Electricity is the flow of aligned angular momentum through the voids of matter. Magnetism is the toroidal wake that the flow leaves behind. They are the same event viewed from two angles.
This is not a metaphor. It is a claim about what electromagnetism actually is. It has five consequences:
| Claim | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Electromagnetism is not fundamental | It is a flow dynamic, not a force |
| Electricity and magnetism are one event | Not two forces causing each other |
| The flow is through the voids of matter | The electrons churn in place; the field moves |
| The wake is toroidal | The field has a definite geometric form |
| The coupling is set by the impedance mismatch | Z0/RK = 2α |
What the standard model says and why it is incomplete
| Standard view | This framework |
|---|---|
| Electromagnetism is a fundamental force | It is the electron’s interaction with the medium |
| Electricity is the flow of charge | Electricity is the propagation of the negative discharge field |
| Magnetism is a separate force | Magnetism is the wake created by the flow |
| They mysteriously cause each other | They are the same event from two angles |
| The math is the territory | The math is the map |
The standard model says a changing electric field creates a magnetic field, and a changing magnetic field creates an electric field. That is a mathematical abstraction, not a physical mechanism. It treats the math as the territory instead of the map.
What this framework says
Electricity flows. The flow leaves a wake. The wake is magnetism. The wake pushes back on the flow. The pushback is the induced current. They are not two forces causing each other. They are one event with two faces.
2. The Four-State Cycle and the Two Bond Pairs
Energy has four fundamental states. They form two natural pairs. Each pair has a low state and a high state.
| Pair | Low state | High state | Relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal pair | Heat | Light | Heat builds until the electron releases a photon |
| Electromagnetic pair | Magnetism | Electricity | Magnetism is the wake; electricity is the flow that creates it |
Heat builds to light. Magnetism builds to electricity.
Why magnetism is the lower state
Magnetism is the wake — it is what is left behind. Electricity is the flow — it is the event that creates the wake. The flow is higher because it is organized. The wake is lower because it is the byproduct.
| State | What it is | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Heat | Chafing — byproduct | Low |
| Magnetism | Wake — byproduct | Low |
| Light | Release at threshold — carries form | High |
| Electricity | Organized flow — carries form | High |
The cycle
Heat → Magnetism → Light → Electricity → Heat
Each state transitions into the next through a real, measured physical process. Heat drives a dynamo, which creates magnetism. Magnetism drives a synchrotron, which creates light. Light drives the photoelectric effect, which creates electricity. Electricity drives resistive heating, which creates heat. The cycle closes.
3. Electricity — The Flow Through the Voids
Electricity is not the flow of electrons. It is the propagation of the negative discharge field through the voids of matter. The electrons churn in place; the field moves.
The structure of a conductor
| Part | Role |
|---|---|
| Crystal lattice (solid atoms) | Scaffold — provides structural resistance |
| Voids between atoms | Highway — provides the pathway for the field |
| Electron bubbles | Valves — churn in place and generate the field |
| Negative discharge field | Electricity — propagates through the voids |
The electrons are the relay points, not the travelers. Like a stadium wave: the people stand and sit in place, but the wave travels around the stadium. The wave is not the people. The wave is the field generated by their coordinated motion.
The two flow requirements
Electricity and heat are both forms of energy moving through resistance. But they move differently, and they favor different structures.
| Energy type | What it prefers | What blocks it |
|---|---|---|
| Electricity | Empty space in the structure for hopping | Blocked, disordered, or absent voids |
| Heat | Close quarters to each other and strong bonding | Isolated atoms, weak coupling, large gaps |
Why diamond and graphene behave differently
Diamond is an electrical insulator but a thermal conductor. Its lattice is too tight for the electrical field to hop, but its atoms are in very close quarters, so vibration transmits extremely efficiently. Graphene conducts both electricity and heat extremely well in-plane, because its hexagonal lattice creates clean, continuous voids for the field and its atoms are in close quarters for vibration.
| Material | Electrical | Thermal | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | Insulator | Excellent conductor | Tight lattice, close quarters |
| Graphite (in-plane) | Good conductor | Good conductor | Layered voids, close in-plane |
| Graphene | Excellent conductor | Excellent conductor | Hexagonal voids + covalent bonds |
| Copper | Excellent conductor | Good conductor | Aligned voids |
| Rubber | Insulator | Insulator | Chaotic voids, distant atoms |
Voltage, current, and resistance
| Property | What it actually is |
|---|---|
| Voltage | The pressure difference of the negative discharge field between two points |
| Current | The rate of propagation — how much of the field moves through the cross-section per second |
| Resistance | The structural opposition the crystal lattice offers to the field’s propagation |
| Power | The rate at which energy is converted |
Field Pressure (Voltage) = Field Flow Rate (Current) × Structural Friction (Resistance)
This is Ohm’s Law. It is not a postulate. It is a mechanical relationship.
4. Magnetism — The Wake of the Flow
Magnetism is the wake created by the spin of electricity. As electricity flows through an electron, it creates a spin. That spin and the forward pressure create a squeezing effect in the electricity, causing it to spread out. That shove creates a pressure wave — a distortion or warp in the electricity. That warping is the magnetic field. It is the ripple left behind by spinning electricity moving through a substance.
The toroidal structure
The wake is organized into a ring — a toroidal structure — around the direction of propagation. This is what we call an electromagnetic field. The shape comes from the geometry of the lattice and the churning electrons.
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Electron churning | Creates a wake |
| Lattice alignment | Stacks the wakes |
| Unified toroid | The magnetic field |
| Escaped fraction | The external field we measure |
Why the field is a toroid
The electrons churn through the lattice in a direction. The wake wraps around the direction of motion. When many electrons pass energy in the same direction, their individual wakes combine and align. The stacked wakes form a unified toroid. That toroid is the magnetic field.
Why magnets have poles
The toroid has an axis. Along the axis, the field points one way. The two ends of the axis are the poles. The flow enters at one pole and exits at the other. That is why magnets always come in pairs.
| Pole | What happens | Temperature |
|---|---|---|
| South pole | Takes energy in | Should be cooler |
| North pole | Emits energy out | Should be warmer |
Opposite sides, due to maximum equilibrium. The magnet maintains its field until the lattice is disrupted by extreme heat, which breaks the alignment.
5. Why Electricity and Magnetism Are One Event
Electricity and magnetism are not two forces that cause each other. They are one event viewed from two angles. Electricity is the flow. Magnetism is the wake. The flow and the wake are inseparable.
The pinwheel analogy
Think of a pinwheel spinning against air. You cannot have a pinwheel spin without air. The spin is electricity. The disturbance — the wake, the ripple — is magnetism. You cannot have one without the other. This is why a pinwheel is also bidirectional. The spin pushes air, and air pushes the pinwheel back. The interaction is naturally two-way.
Why electricity cannot flow without magnetism
Electricity flows in a forward direction as a cone-like structure in a wire, but keeps radiating outward into the surrounding environment. That bleed-off is in the form of a disc-like structure we call a magnetic field. The bleed-off is not optional. It is required by the geometry. The flow creates the wake. The wake is magnetism.
Why a changing magnetic field creates a current
When a magnetic field changes, the wake changes. The change in the wake pushes back on the electrons in the conductor. The pushback moves the electron bubbles. The moved bubbles regenerate the negative discharge field. That is the induced current. It is not a new force. It is the wake pushing back on the flow. It is the same event from the other end.
The two directions of the electromagnetic interaction are the two ends of the same event. Rule 6 — the two-end principle — applies directly here.
6. The Right-Hand Rule — From the Lattice Geometry
The right-hand rule is not magic. It is the direct result of the atomic structure of the material the electricity is flowing through.
The atomic offset
The atoms in a conductor are not perfectly aligned. If they were in exact alignment, the straight-line path would create the most opposition to flow. Instead, the atoms are offset — slightly shifted relative to each other. This offset creates a helical (spiral) path for the electricity, which is the path of least resistance.
Why the spiral is right-handed
Because the atoms are offset in a specific direction, the spiral is right-handed. That is the physical origin of the right-hand rule. The offset creates a toroidal motion of electricity, and that motion creates the toroidal wake we call the magnetic field.
The handedness hierarchy
| Element | Direction/spin | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Electron (matter) | Left-handed | From the weak nuclear force |
| Electricity (energy) | Right-handed | Energy flows counter to matter |
| EM field (energy) | Left-handed | The field follows the counter-flow pattern |
The weak nuclear force has a fundamental preference for left-handed interactions, which is the only known source of “handedness” in the universe. This creates the electron with left-handed chirality. The electricity produced by the electron is therefore right-handed. The electromagnetic field is the wake of that electricity, and the wake flows in the opposite direction of the flow that created it. Therefore, the electromagnetic field is left-handed.
The direction of magnetic rotation is also influenced by the crystal lattice of the structure the electricity is flowing in. Different lattices give slightly different handedness in the response.
7. Why Magnets Need So Little Added Energy
A permanent magnet maintains its magnetic field for years, decades, even centuries. It does not need a battery. It does not need an external power source. Where does the energy come from?
The recirculating engine
The magnet is a recirculating engine. The electrons in the magnetized lattice are locked in a synchronized dance. They release energy as heat and EM fields. The neutron demand recaptures most of that exhaust and sends it through the cycle again. Only a tiny fraction escapes. The rest goes around.
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Electrons in the lattice | Release energy as heat and EM fields |
| Neutron demand | Recaptures most of the exhaust |
| Proton valve | Regulates the flow |
| Cycle | Self-sustaining |
| Escaped fraction | Tiny — the magnet’s external field |
The recapture fraction
ye = Z0/RK = 2α
| Quantity | Value |
|---|---|
| Exhaust density ye | 0.0146 (1.46%) |
| Recapture fraction | 0.9854 (98.54%) |
| Escaped fraction | 0.0146 (1.46%) |
| Effective flow | ~2× external flow |
Why heating destroys magnetism
Heat disrupts the lattice alignment. When the lattice vibrates too much, the synchronized dance of the electrons breaks down. The electron churning becomes chaotic. The wakes no longer stack into a unified toroid. They cancel each other out. When the dance breaks down, the recapture stops. The field collapses.
| Condition | What happens | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Cold magnet | Lattice aligned, electrons synchronized | Strong field, high recapture |
| Warm magnet | Lattice vibrates, some misalignment | Weaker field, lower recapture |
| Hot magnet | Lattice chaotic, electrons random | No field, no recapture |
The magnet and the proton are the same mechanism at different scales. Both are recirculating structures. Both recapture most of their exhaust. Both release only a tiny fraction as an external field.
8. The Vacuum as a Two-Fluid BEC
Space is not empty. It is a resistive medium full of energy. It has the structure of a two-fluid Bose-Einstein condensate.
| Component | Fraction | What it is | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Superfluid | 98.54% | Recycled angular momentum | Magnetism |
| Normal | 1.46% | Fresh input from environment | Electricity |
The normal fraction
fn = Z0 / RK = 2α
| Quantity | Value | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Normal fraction | 0.0146 | 2α |
| Superfluid fraction | 0.9854 | 1 − 2α |
| Quality factor | 68.5 | 1/(2α) |
| Force balance | 129 vs 125 MeV/fm³ | 3% |
Why the vacuum is 98.54% superfluid
Space needs a bubble for structure. That bubble is the lowest heat level in the universe. Without a medium, no interaction occurs. The bubble is stable only at the impedance floor Z0. At that impedance, the fraction of the bubble that exchanges with the environment is 1.46%. The rest recirculates. The 1.46% is not a mystery. It is the necessary exchange fraction for the bubble to exist.
| State | Angular momentum type | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Superfluid | Angular (recirculating) | Magnetism |
| Normal | Linear (exchanging) | Electricity |
9. The Impedance of Free Space — The Heat Floor
Free space has a characteristic electromagnetic impedance. It is not an ordinary electrical resistance of space. It is the ratio of the electric field to the magnetic field in an electromagnetic wave.
Z0 = 376.730313668 Ω
What Z0 is
It is the ratio of the electric field to the magnetic field in an electromagnetic wave traveling through vacuum. When a wave travels through it, the electric field and the magnetic field are locked in a fixed ratio. That ratio is Z0. It is the resistance that empty space presents to light.
Z0 is the heat floor
Heat is the slow bleed — energy below the threshold. It is the baseline chafing that persists before any release. Z0 is the baseline resistance that space presents to any electromagnetic wave. If resistance is what generates heat (Rule 2), and Z0 is the minimum resistance that exists, then Z0 is the minimum heat. It is the heat floor of the vacuum.
| State | Resistance | Heat |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute zero | 0 Ω | 0 |
| Vacuum floor | Z0 = 376.73 Ω | 2.725 K (CMB) |
| Room temperature | Higher | 300 K |
| Stellar core | Much higher | 10⁷ K |
Absolute zero would require zero resistance. Z0 is the minimum. So the vacuum is always at least 2.725 K. That is the CMB. That is the heat floor. That is why absolute zero is unreachable.
10. The Quantum of Resistance — RK
The quantum of resistance is the resistance of a single quantum channel of electrons.
RK = h / e²
RK = 25812.80745 Ω
What RK is
In the quantum Hall effect, a two-dimensional electron gas in a strong magnetic field conducts electricity in perfectly quantized steps. Each step has resistance exactly RK/n where n is an integer. The fundamental step is RK. It is the resistance of one electron wavefunction moving through a conductor.
Why RK matters
RK is a property of charge. It is built from Planck’s constant and the electron charge. It is one of the most precisely measured constants in physics. It defines the standard for electrical resistance.
| Constant | What it is | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Z0 | Impedance of free space | How much vacuum resists light |
| RK | Quantum of resistance | How much one electron resists flow |
Z0 is a property of space. RK is a property of charge. Their ratio is dimensionless. It does not depend on units.
11. The Ratio Z0/RK = 2α
The ratio of the vacuum impedance to the quantum of resistance is twice the fine-structure constant.
Z0 / RK = 2α
376.730 / 25812.807 = 0.014594
2α = 0.014594
Why this is exact
The impedance of free space is Z0 = 1/(ε0 c). The quantum of resistance is RK = h/e². The ratio is:
Z0 / RK = e² / (ε0 c h)
Since h = 2πℏ:
Z0 / RK = e² / (2π ε0 ℏ c) = 2α
The factor of two comes from h = 2πℏ. It is the difference between the quantum of action and the reduced quantum of action. It is not put in by hand. It follows from the definitions.
What this ratio means
The exhaust density is ye = 2α. The vacuum is 98.54% superfluid because the impedance of free space is 1.46% of the quantum of resistance. The two constants are not independent. One is 2α times the other. That is the reduction: two electromagnetic constants become one.
Status: Derived from the definitions. The physical picture — that the ratio is the exchange fraction — is an interpretation.
12. Electromagnetism and the Fine-Structure Constant
The fine-structure constant α appears everywhere in electromagnetism. In this framework, it is the coupling of the electromagnetic interaction to the vacuum medium. It has a definite physical meaning.
α is the electron’s resistance to the proton
In the framework, the electron’s response to the proton’s pull is not at full speed. It is at a fraction of the full speed. That fraction is α.
vpoloidal = α c
The poloidal velocity is the electron’s response to the proton. The toroidal velocity is the electron’s natural state (at c). The ratio is the resistance. That resistance is α.
The derivation
Neff = 21 − 1/4 = 83/4
α = π / Neff² = 16π / 83² = 16π / 6889
α = 0.0072965
| Number | Value | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 21 | 13 + 8 | The (13, 8) golden torus knot winding sum |
| 4 | 2 × 2 | Rule 6 (two layers) × Rule 3 (two windings) |
| 1/4 | The correction | The electron’s self-interaction |
| 83 | 4 × 21 − 1 | Effective winding numerator |
Measured: α = 0.00729735. Agreement: 0.013%.
Where α appears in electromagnetism
| Context | What α does |
|---|---|
| Exhaust density | ye = 2α |
| Vacuum fraction | fn = Z0/RK = 2α |
| Electron aspect ratio | R/rcore = 1/(2α) |
| Poloidal velocity | vθ = α c |
| Fine-structure splitting | Energy level splitting in atoms |
The fine-structure constant is not a mystery coupling. It is the electron’s resistance to the proton, half the normal fraction of the vacuum BEC, and the pitch of the loxodrome. It has a definite physical meaning.
13. The Photon Ball as an Electromagnetic Object
A photon is a structured ball of energy held together by surface tension. It has angular momentum. It rotates. It is a release of an electron at its threshold.
The photon’s electromagnetic structure
| Aspect | What it is |
|---|---|
| Form | A structured ball or toroidal ring held by surface tension |
| Rotation | Angular momentum, set by the conservation of angular momentum |
| Internal impact rate | finternal = C/D |
| Handedness | Left or right — depends on the source electron |
| Emission threshold | When the electron reaches C |
Why light is not a wave
Light is not a wave. It does not vibrate. It does not oscillate. It has no wavelength. It has no wave frequency. The photon is a structured ball of energy that rotates. The rotation rate is set by the radius through the conservation of angular momentum.
| Standard view | This framework |
|---|---|
| Light is a wave | Light is a structured ball |
| Light has frequency | Frequency is the internal impact rate C/D |
| Light has wavelength | Wavelength is an illusion of ball size |
| Light vibrates | The ball rotates internally |
| The wiggle is internal | The wiggle is external — from the medium |
The two rates in the photon
| Rate | What it is | What it produces |
|---|---|---|
| External arrival rate | How many photons hit the eye per second | Brightness |
| Internal impact rate | How fast a single photon delivers its energy | Color |
Internal impact rate = C / D
14. Reflection, Absorption, and the Pool-Table Mechanism
Reflection is not a passive bounce. The object absorbs the photon, redirects its own angular momentum into the re-emitted photon, and sends it back out. The reflected photon is a new photon with redirected angular momentum, shaped by the object that reflected it.
The pool-table mechanism
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | A photon hits the object |
| 2 | The object absorbs the photon |
| 3 | The object redirects its own angular momentum into the photon |
| 4 | The object re-emits a new photon with redirected angular momentum |
| 5 | The rest of the energy becomes heat — vibrations in the object |
Why different materials reflect different colors
| Object color | What it redirects |
|---|---|
| Red object | Redirects angular momentum that makes the reflected photon red |
| Blue object | Redirects angular momentum that makes the reflected photon blue |
| White object | Redirects almost nothing — the photon comes out the same |
| Mirror | Redirects very little angular momentum |
Why reflection preserves brightness but changes color
The number of photons stays the same. The energy stays the same. But the angular momentum is redirected. That changes the color. The rest of the energy becomes heat — vibrations in the object.
The rotary photon drag
The mechanism has been measured. In 1976, R. V. Jones measured the rotation of polarization of light passing through a rotating glass rod. The light’s polarization rotated by an amount proportional to the rod’s rotation rate.
θ = (n − 1) ω L / c
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| n | Refractive index of the medium |
| ω | Rotation rate of the medium |
| L | Path length |
| c | Speed of light |
The effect is real. It is the mechanical analog of the Faraday effect. It is the drag of the rotating medium on the photon’s angular momentum. This confirms the framework’s drag mechanism.
15. The Three-Polarizer Experiment
This is one of the classic demonstrations in quantum optics. It shows that adding a polarizer can increase the transmitted light.
The setup
| Configuration | Transmission |
|---|---|
| P1 vertical + P3 horizontal (crossed) | 0% |
| P1 vertical + P2 at 45° + P3 horizontal | 12.5% |
Adding the middle polarizer takes you from 0% to 12.5%. That is the “more light” the demonstration shows. It is not more than the original beam. It is more than zero.
The ball model explanation
The polarizer is not a passive filter. It is an active reorienter. It forces the ball to align with its lattice. The ball’s angular momentum is redirected along the polarizer axis.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | The ball emerges from P1 with vertical angular momentum |
| 2 | The ball hits P2 at 45° |
| 3 | The vertical component along 45° is cos(45°) = 0.707 |
| 4 | The probability of passing is cos²(45°) = 0.5 |
| 5 | If it passes, its angular momentum is redirected to 45° |
| 6 | It hits P3 at 90° |
| 7 | The 45° component along 90° is cos(45°) = 0.707 |
| 8 | The probability of passing is cos²(45°) = 0.5 |
Transmission = 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.25
After P1, half the light is lost. So total transmission from incident light is 12.5%.
Why the middle polarizer helps
Without P2, the ball goes from vertical to horizontal directly. The angle between them is 90°. The probability is cos²(90°) = 0. With P2, the ball goes vertical → 45° → horizontal. Each step is 45°. The probability is cos²(45°) × cos²(45°) = 0.25. The middle polarizer reorients the ball in two smaller steps instead of one large step.
What this confirms
The experiment confirms that the polarizer is not a passive filter. It is an active reorienter. The transmitted light is not the original light. It is light that has been reoriented by the polarizer lattice.
What would distinguish the ball model
The ball model predicts that the reorientation takes a finite time. If the polarizer rotates faster than the reorientation time, the transmission differs from the standard prediction. The required rate is roughly 1012 rad/s. That is at the edge of current technology. The test has not been done.
16. The Rotary Photon Drag — Measured Confirmation
The rotary photon drag is the rotation of polarization of light passing through a rotating medium. It is the direct mechanical analog of the Faraday effect.
The measurement
R. V. Jones (1976) measured the effect in a rotating glass rod. Modern techniques can measure it much more precisely. The effect is real. It is the drag of the rotating medium on the photon’s angular momentum.
θ = (n − 1) ω L / c
| Material | n − 1 | Rotation rate | Path length | Rotation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glass | 0.5 | 100 rad/s | 0.1 m | 1.7 × 10−8 rad |
| Air | 3 × 10−4 | 100 rad/s | 0.1 m | 1 × 10−11 rad |
What this confirms
The medium realigns the photon’s angular momentum. The drag is the coupling. The faster the rotation, the stronger the drag. This is exactly what the framework says.
| Framework | Rotary photon drag |
|---|---|
| Medium realigns angular momentum | Polarization rotates in rotating medium |
| Drag is the coupling | θ ∝ (n−1) ω L / c |
| Faster rotation = stronger drag | θ ∝ ω |
| Denser medium = stronger drag | θ ∝ (n−1) |
Every row matches. The rotary photon drag is the experimental proof of the framework’s drag mechanism.
17. Rotary Drag in Air — A Testable Prediction
The effect in air is predicted by the same formula. It has not been measured because the effect is too small with ordinary air and ordinary rotation rates.
The prediction
θ = (n − 1) ω L / c
For air at STP, n − 1 = 3 × 10−4. For a 100 m path and a rotation rate of 1000 rad/s:
θ = 3 × 10−4 × 1000 × 100 / (3 × 108) = 1 × 10−6 rad
That is microradians. Detectable with a good polarimeter.
The test
| Setup | Specification |
|---|---|
| Light source | Polarized laser |
| Chamber | 100 m pipe |
| Medium | Compressed air at 10 atm |
| Flow | Fast vortex, 1000 rad/s |
| Detector | High-precision polarimeter |
What to look for
| Model | Prediction |
|---|---|
| Standard physics | No rotation from air flow |
| This framework | Rotation of order 10−6 rad |
The test is feasible. It has not been done. It would confirm the drag mechanism at the air scale.
18. The Hong-Ou-Mandel Effect — Reverse Symmetry
The HOM effect is a two-photon interference effect. When two identical single photons enter a 50:50 beam splitter, one from each side, they always exit together from the same output port.
The measurement
The coincidence probability drops to zero when the photons are completely indistinguishable. In the standard model, this is a consequence of bosonic statistics. In this framework, it is a consequence of the reverse symmetry of the reflecting surface.
What reverse symmetry means
Every reflecting surface has a symmetry: the law of reflection is the same for both directions. If light comes from the left and reflects to the right, it follows the same path as light coming from the right reflecting to the left. The surface treats both sides identically.
This symmetry forces the reflection phase i. The two paths (A→C, B→D and A→D, B→C) are symmetric. Their amplitudes cancel. The coincidence state is forbidden. The bunching state is required.
Why the symmetry holds
The surface is in equilibrium with the vacuum. The constant feed of balls into and out of the surface is symmetric. There is no preferred direction. The surface has no internal arrow of time. The reverse symmetry is a consequence of the equilibrium.
The testable prediction
If the surface is biased out of equilibrium, the reverse symmetry breaks. The HOM dip should be reduced.
| Bias type | Effect on HOM dip |
|---|---|
| Thermal (heat one side) | Reduced |
| Electrical (voltage across) | Reduced |
| Optical (strong bias beam) | Reduced |
| Rotation (break time-reversal) | Reduced |
Status: The reverse symmetry mechanism is a candidate. The test has not been done. The prediction is specific and feasible in a quantum optics lab.
19. Electromagnetism in the Four-State Cycle
Electromagnetism is not a separate sector of physics. It is one state of the four-state cycle. Understanding its place in the cycle explains why electricity and magnetism are inseparable.
The cycle
Heat → Magnetism → Light → Electricity → Heat
Why magnetism comes before light
Magnetism is the wake. It is a lower state than light because the wake is the byproduct. Light is the release at threshold. The wake precedes the release. The magnet’s field must be established before the electron can release its photon.
Why light comes before electricity
Light drives the photoelectric effect. The photon ejects an electron. The ejected electron creates a current. The light is the cause; the electricity is the effect. Light is the higher state; electricity is the release.
Why electricity is the highest state
Electricity is the most concentrated form of the four. It requires the lattice to align. It requires the others to be present as components. It is what you get when you concentrate heat, magnetism, and light together. That is why electricity is the highest state in the cycle.
| State | Angular momentum | Organization |
|---|---|---|
| Heat | Random | None |
| Magnetism | Toroidal loops | Static |
| Light | Propagating spin balls | Coherent |
| Electricity | Directed flow | Most concentrated |

21. How to Test the Framework
The framework makes different predictions from the standard model in several domains of electromagnetism. Each of these is a candidate test.
| Test | What it checks | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Rotary photon drag in air | Medium drag coupling | Hard (needs long pipe, compressed air) |
| HOM with biased beam splitter | Reverse symmetry breaking | Medium |
| HOM with different materials | Surface dependence | Medium |
| Three-polarizer with rotating middle | Reorientation time | Very hard (needs ~300 GHz) |
| Reorientation time measurement | Finite reorientation | Very hard |
The HOM test
Heat the beam splitter. Filter out thermal photons. Measure the HOM dip. Standard quantum mechanics predicts no change. The ball model predicts a reduction. This is a real, feasible test in a quantum optics lab.
The rotary drag in air
Send polarized light through a rotating air chamber. Measure the output polarization. Standard physics predicts no rotation. The ball model predicts a rotation of order 10−6 rad for a 100 m path and a 1000 rad/s vortex in compressed air.
22. One-Line Summary
Electromagnetism is not a fundamental force. It is the electron’s interaction with the resistive medium of space. Electricity is the flow of aligned angular momentum through the voids of matter. Magnetism is the toroidal wake that the flow leaves behind. They are the same event viewed from two angles. The flow is organized by the lattice. The wake is shaped by the medium. The two are inseparable. The exhaust density is 2α. The vacuum is 98.54% superfluid because the impedance of free space is 1.46% of the quantum of resistance. The fine-structure constant α is the electron’s resistance to the proton, half the normal fraction of the vacuum BEC, and the pitch of the loxodrome. Magnets need so little added energy because they recirculate their own exhaust — they recapture 98.5% of what they release. The rotary photon drag confirms the medium drag mechanism. The three-polarizer experiment confirms the reorientation mechanism. The four-state cycle — heat → magnetism → light → electricity → heat — is the underlying structure. Magnetism is not a separate force. It is the wake of the flow. Electricity is not the flow of electrons. It is the propagation of the negative discharge field through the voids. Electromagnetism is one thing, viewed from two ends.
Electricity is the flow.
Magnetism is the wake.
They are the same event viewed from two angles.
The flow leaves the wake. The wake pushes back on the flow.
The medium shapes both. The lattice organizes both.
Everything else follows.
